Hey there, lovebirds!

First of all—congratulations! You’re stepping into one of the most exciting seasons of your life. An engagement session is more than just pretty pictures; it’s an opportunity to capture the love, joy, and promise you share before you walk down the aisle.

I’ve learned a thing or two about what makes these moments shine. So whether this is your first time in front of the camera or you’ve done it all before, here are my top engagement session tips to help you feel comfortable, look your best, and truly enjoy the process.

1. Choose a Meaningful Location

Where you have your session can make all the difference in how your photos feel. Think about places that have meaning for you as a couple:

The place you met

A favorite coffee shop

A park where you enjoy dates

Your home or apartment, if you’re into the cozy vibe

Or, choose somewhere that speaks to your love story and style (e.g., a scenic overlook, garden, or even a local downtown area).

It’s not just about a pretty backdrop—it’s about you and the story you’re telling.

2. Wear Outfits that Feel Like “You”

When choosing outfits, consider wearing something that feels like you—comfortable, confident, and reflective of your personal style. You’ll want to wear colors and fabrics that complement each other, but avoid overly matching outfits. Instead, think of it as harmonizing your looks!

For Him: A tailored shirt, well-fitted pants, or even a casual jacket can look amazing!

For Her: A dress, blouse, or pants that make you feel confident is always a great choice.

And most importantly, avoid outfits that are too distracting or make you feel stiff or uncomfortable. The goal is for you to feel like yourselves.

3. Bring the Fun & Authenticity

One of the best things you can do is be yourselves! Share a laugh, hold hands, steal a kiss, and let your natural connection come through. There’s no need to force “perfect” poses—sometimes the most special moments are the unscripted ones.

I love capturing those spontaneous, in-between moments that tell the real story of who you are as a couple. It’s those moments that will make your photos truly authentic. Don’t worry about being “perfect”—just enjoy each other!

4. Prep for the Day (In a Chill Way)

A little prep goes a long way, but there’s no need to stress. Here are a few easy tips:

Rest up the night before. It’s hard to look and feel your best when you’re exhausted! A good night’s sleep makes all the difference.

Hydrate—lots of water will help your skin glow and keep you feeling energized.

Think about hair and makeup. If you’re hiring professionals, great! If not, take some time to freshen up, but keep it natural—this is you, just enhanced.

5. Don’t Forget to Bring Props or Special Items

Is there something that represents your relationship? Maybe a piece of jewelry, a favorite book, or a gift from your partner? Bringing small sentimental items into the session can make your photos even more personal and memorable.

I’ve had couples bring flowers, handwritten letters, and even their dogs (always a win!). Whatever feels right for you, I’m excited to capture it.

6. Relax & Be Present

The most important tip I can offer? Relax. I know being in front of a camera can feel a bit awkward at first (trust me, I’ve been there too!), but the key is to be present with each other. Take a deep breath, slow down, and focus on enjoying the moment. Whether you’re gazing into each other’s eyes or sharing a private joke, that genuine connection will make for the most beautiful photos.

7. Trust the Process & Your Photographer

Remember, you’re not in this alone! I’m here to guide you through the process and make sure everything goes smoothly. Trust me when I say that I’m passionate about making you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful throughout the session.

I’ll direct when necessary, but I also love letting you both just be—because I know that’s when the magic happens.

8. Pray & Be Grateful

This is such a sacred time, and I love being able to reflect on the purpose behind it all. As you prepare for this next chapter, I encourage you to take a moment to pause, pray, and be grateful for the love that’s brought you here. The bond you share is unique, powerful, and beautiful, and I feel truly honored to capture it for you.

From My Heart to Yours

I’m truly excited to be part of your journey—both as your photographer and as someone who wants to celebrate your love. My hope is that your engagement session is not only a chance to create beautiful images but a chance to pause and soak in this season together. Whether you’re in front of the camera or just living out your love story, I pray that these photos are a beautiful reminder of all that’s to come.

If you’re ready to schedule your engagement session or just have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out—I can’t wait to capture your love in a way that’s real and true to you.

With love,
